SMSC NEWS BULLETIN 5
April, 2011

The SMSC is investigating Annapolis as the site for the 2012 East Coast Meeting.  Walt Slocomb will report back in the near future on potential accommodations and meeting sites.

Updates for the Kassel and Monterey Collectors Meetings can be found on their respective pages.

The following notices from the last update are retained for convenience:

  • 1250scale.com: The old 1250 scale page of the Steelnavy Web Site is now the new 1250scale.com web site.  1250scale editor/webmaster Paul Jacobs has decided to go solo, giving the small scale ship modeling community its own independent presence on the Web.  Steelnavy.com will still be there for those who like to follow the blue Arizona debate, but the 1250 scale message board, dealer/producer links and all the other small scale features can now be accessed at 1250scale.com.

  • 1250Ships:  Chris Daley's 1250Ships has gone through a major transformation.  Chris will no longer offer the full range of current models, but will instead focus only on his own 1250 and California Model lines.  Chris also plans to continue his role as the only US source for Sean Pritchard's Seavee models.  This will allow him to devote more attention to his newest venture, Daley Publishing.  Several new titles are in the works, among which is another Paul Jacobs book, U.S. Battleships in Miniature.  Chris is preparing to roll out a new web site in the next several weeks, so stay tuned...

  • MSM:  Bill Werner has taken over most of Chris Daley's inventory along with his 1250Ships web site, which he's in the process of retooling to provide a better platform on which to view (both on PC's and MAC's) MSM's expanded range of offerings.

  • Gwyllan Models:  Will Jayne has ceased production of this short-lived line of high quality models.  His remaining inventory is being sold by Martin Brown (Waterline Ships) at a discount.

  • Monterey 2011 Collectors Meeting:  The organizers from the Northern California Chapter led by Harald Scheel and Paul Jacobs have secured a good rate of $170/night at the centrally located Portola Hotel and have selected Isabella's on Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf as the location for the Friday night dinner.  Details can be found on the Monterey 2011 page.

  • SMSC Members List:  On our Members page, we have included a list of SMSC members along with contact information to encourage better communication among ourselves and possibly the formation of additonal regional groups from among those living within convenient traveling distance from one another.  Members were contacted prior to this posting, and, for privacy reasons, several decided either not to be listed or to have the 1250scale message board as their contact address.  If any member wishes to change their contact address or not to be listed, please notify the Webmaster via the "Contact Us" page.

  • New Model Releases: Producers and Dealers wishing to publicize new model releases may notify the Webmaster through the "Contact Us" page.
